Nancy Chavez
On August 13th, 2002 Margarita Chavez was shopping at a local Wal-Mart in Abilene, Texas with her three children.  As she turns around to put her shopping cart away her one month old baby, Nancy Chavez is missing.  Captured on surveillance cameras it shows how quickly this happened and the heroism of a young boy who tried to help.

The cameras show 24 year old Paula Lynn Roach had been circulating the parking lot of Wal-Mart and as Margarita shifts her attention for a second, little Nancy Chavez is taken away.  Screaming for help, a young 13 year old boy named Robert Gann notices what has happened and runs after the car.  Trying to open the door unsuccessfully, he then takes a swing at the window but Paula Lynn Roach was able to get away.

The very next day, 120 miles away in Quanah, Texas, authorities pulled over Paula Lynn Roach along with her mother.  Paula tried to tell the police that she had just had the baby the day before which raised suspicion because it did not appear to be a day old.  That is when authorities felt they had just found Nancy Chavez.  Footprint analysis determined that it was indeed Nancy Chavez that Paula Lynn Roach was holding, and not as she claimed, her own child.    She was safely reunited with her parents after being missing for only a day.
