On Monday, July 22nd, 2003, Erica Pratt was kidnapped by two men driving a white car. Erica was kicking and screaming as a heavy set male dragged her into the car. This was just a few feet from her home.
She was left for about 24 hours in an abandoned houses locked basement. Duct tape was used to bind her feet, arms as well as her eyes. During this time a reward of $10,000 had been raised, police announced they were looking for two men in question regarding the abuction: 29 year old James Burn, and 23 year old Edward Johnson. Police had believed that Erica Pratt was targeted because her 5 year old friend that was with Erica was not abducted, nor did they make the attempt to abduct her. Within 20 minutes of Erica’s abduction her grandmother (Barbara Pratt) was called by a man demanding $150,000 dollars or Erica would die. Erica was able to talk with her grandmother during on of the calls.
Yet during this ordeal, Erica was left alone in the basement. On July 23rd, Erica managed to free herself from the duct tape, kicked open a door panel, made it upstairs where she pushed out a window and called for help. Erica Pratt was not harmed in any physical way. She was safely reunited with her grandmother later that night.
